What stops us from getting what we want?

Let's talk a little bit about success and what stops us from going for and getting the things we want.

This is my first post in a series of posts I'll be doing about finding your business idea and turning it into a clear vision and turning your vision into a marketable brand customers will be excited to buy from.

But what I want to talk about today actually is success.

A lot of people will tell you that success is however you define it. Actually, success has a very simple and consistent definition. Success is achieving whatever you set out to achieve.

So let's say you want to climb a mountain and you climb a mountain – boom! Success. If you don't climb the mountain, I'm sorry to say it, but boom! Failure. Or let's say you want to make a million dollars. You make a million dollars – boom! Success. You don't make a million dollars, once again you failed to achieve your goal – failure. Pretty simple, pretty

straightforward. Maybe a little bit brutal but that's how it is.

But then there's this whole other world of dreams, desires, ambitions that we have inside us that we never try to achieve. We want to climb the mountain but we never try to climb the mountain and we tell ourselves we haven't failed because we haven't tried. But the reality is, those are also failures. It's like I think Wayne Gretzky once said, that you miss 100% of the shots you never take.

And what's keeping us from taking those shots? There are two things.

The first is fear and the second is ignorance. And those go hand in hand, so let's look at fear first.

Fear of failure obviously but then there's fear of judgment, fear of losing money, fear of wasting your time, wasting your effort, fear of humiliation. The list goes on and on and on. There's so many things that we can be afraid of and the reality is as human beings we actually experience the pain of loss twice as much as we experience the joy of reward. So of course it stands to reason then that we're twice as afraid of loss as we are, as we want reward. That fear is twice as powerful as ambition. And that's just this incredibly powerful negative incentive to keep us in our place. To keep with the status quo, to not change anything.

So how do we change it?

Well, that's where ignorance comes in. Usually we can't change it, we don't want to change it, because we don't know how to change it. We don't know how to take that first step. We don't know in what direction to take that first step. We don't have someone to hold our hand or to mentor us on those first steps.

But the amazing thing is, once you take those first steps, once you take that first step, the fear starts to go away little by little, step by step. The fear goes away until there's no more fear and it's just second nature.

So to help you with that I actually created this system, which I've used with myself and which I use with my clients, that shows you the steps. It helps you find your business idea and turn it into a clear vision and turn that vision into a marketable brand customers will be excited to buy from.

So if that's you, if you have desires, dreams, ambitions inside you that you want to achieve but you don't know how to take that first step or you maybe you've taken the first step but you don't know how to take the next step after that or in what direction to go, I'm going to be doing a whole bunch of posts coming up that I think you'll find super interesting, super helpful.

Or, you know what, just feel free to shoot me a message either on Facebook at my company's page, that's at Mongrel or here on our website. Shoot me an email.

I'd love to hear from you. I'd love to help you out. Talk to you soon.
